Avatar Problem

Why I can't select any avatar? Whenever I try to select one from the gallery, i get the following message:
Warning: is_file(): Stat failed for images/avatars/gallery/General (errno=13 - Permission denied) in /var/www/htdocs/board/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 279
Warning: is_link(): Lstat failed for (null) (errno=13 - Permission denied) in /var/www/htdocs/board/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 279
I can't even upload one of my own. I get the same warning again. Can anyone explain where the problem is?
