Actually algorithm compitation helps individual people to gain confidence in programming. once you r confident enough you can go for any kind of software or IT related development and you will be always counted by IT related job porvider. So by implication misof can say that a country with lot of good (confident) programmers is good in IT.

tai , so easy to develop any kind of software? r u blind ? if u want to do very well in algorithm and want to be very confident , then u must go for important research,
at least i think so , then u will be very confident like Robert Tarjan , otherwise u will be
a Rahim in any way.
Think a bit deeper and you will get the answer. Following HINT should be enough for you.

HINT: How much does skill in problem solving & algorithm contribute to software development?

I'll give you a little more explanation if you want but I don't think you need so.

With best regards.

You can't say that if a country having good programmers is also good in IT sector. A talented kid can make himself/herself a good programmer by practice. IT sector is not just talent, it also need infrastructure, solid support from government and in some cases, foreign investment. Bangladesh is probably the best example. She has got some great programming talents . But the government is hardly doing anything about it

I hope, some day the new generation will change this!
