Parberry's "Problems on Algorithms" is a very useful book for
contestants. It classifies many of the sorts of problems you are
likely to see in contests and gives many examples. It outlines
some solutions, but you probably need a more detailed
algorithms text unless you are pretty good at deducing
the code from a few hints.
I encourage you to reward Parberry by making a small
donation to charity as he suggests.
