955 - Interpreting Old Maps

Post by rio »

I can't understand the problem statement.

In the Example, how could D explained as the sum 11+30+34 ?

Thanks in advance.

The word "ou" (probably Potuguese) means "or" in English, so

A -> B is 11 or 40
B -> C is 30
C -> D is 42 or 34

This means A -> B -> C -> D is 83 or 75 or 112 or 104.

Of these, 75 is approximately equal to sqrt(67.9^2 + 31.9^2), so that is the right choice.

This is a weird problem, but if you make the right guesses, you'll get AC.
